The sleeve compensator is a new type of compensation device successfully developed on the basis of the conventional sleeve compensator. Its structural design consists of an inner sleeve (core tube), an outer shell, a sealing mechanism, and sealing packing. This sleeve compensator overcomes the shortcomings of the old sleeve compensator—such as frequent leakage, frequent maintenance requirements, and high thrust—and is widely used in pipeline networks across various industries.

After the selection and confirmation of the sleeve compensator’s design, its fabrication can be carried out based on a series of data specified in relevant standards. The sleeve compensator is fabricated by bending pipes; smaller units can be made from a single pipe, while larger units may require two or three pipes. Since the compensator experiences significant stress during operation, it is crucial to bend it using a single pipe, and weld seams must be completely avoided.
There are two types of bending processes: cold bending and hot bending. Cold bending of steel pipes can be performed manually on a platform using a manual pipe bender. The die of the pipe bender should match the diameter and bending radius of the steel pipe. The pipe bender should be set at an angle 3–5° greater than the required bending angle. Sleeve compensators are classified into unidirectional compensation structures and bidirectional compensation structures. A key feature of bidirectional compensators is that they function effectively regardless of which end of the compensator the medium flows into.
The sliding sleeves at both ends of the compensator always slide freely, thereby achieving bidirectional compensation and increasing the amount of compensation. The sleeve-type compensator, also known as a sleeve expansion joint, is a compensation device used in pipelines carrying hot fluids. It is directly installed in pipelines that convey non-corrosive fluids—whether in a single direction or multiple directions—and consists primarily of a sleeve (core pipe), an outer shell, and sealing materials. This type of compensator is designed to accommodate axial expansion and contraction of the pipeline as well as axial rotation at arbitrary angles.
